TAOSB__Audio Engineering History: WCWP 88.1

In response to a call for WCWP passed engineers to have a spot in homecoming weekend broadcasts at CW Post College on Long Island. The beginning is what I submitted, later amplifying it for this blog. I was an engineer there in 1966, co hosted and produced FOLK PROJECT with Linda Hughes. Recorded and Live in the studio broadcasts featuring my high school chums the SUB CELLER DWELLER JUG BAND. Linda interviewed Rawn McKinnon. I was present when Henry installed a new, more powerful transmitter. John Korrkus was reading the news. I cut classes to do audio engineering (I held a Radio Telegraph 3rd class license). Broadcasting was in my blood, went to work at NYC ABC-TV NEWS and participated in producing space shots beginning with Mercury, Gemini through the Apollo series. Jules Bergman had been my childhood hero, a science reporter there… I got to meet and work with him. During a NABET strike I got to operate the BIG BROADCAST camera another childhood dream, on shows like Virginia Graham, Dark Shadows, Nightly News and ABC Wild World Of Sports; chaired by Howard Cosell. I left ABC for a job as an audio engineer in a small record companies 3 track studio. Trained by the then chief engineer, I didn’t join him to be his 2nd engineer in an 8 track studio doing cover tune recording, instead took over his position, brought the studio to 4 tracks and had the company hire my GF to be secretary and buddy Bob Emmanuel to be my 2nd. 2 years there, drive a cab 4 years, moved to CALIF in 1975 got audio engineering jobs at Newjack Sound and a company dubbing Jazzercise cassettes. Then came being a second engineer in a 40 track studio, wiring the place and console, doing maintenance and tuning the 40 tracks of preamps and channel electronics of the tape machines: a 24 track Ampex, 12 track Ampex and two track Ampex.
